The college was established on 8 December 1991 as part of the ruralisation of agricultural education in Karnataka. It initially functioned under the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore and has now become part of the newly established University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya.
The college is situated approximately 10 km from Mandya town within the V.C. Farm campus. The campus has a long agricultural research history, having originally been established as a sugarcane research station in 1931.
